I worked for NASA's Aerospace
Simulation Research & Development Branch (AFS) to design and implement a JAVA - C++ wrapper
class for the Trajectory Synthesizer(TS) program.
The AFS Branch provides simulation software and systems expertise and unique human-in-the-loop
simulation facilities for aerospace research applications. The Branch operates and maintains
key aerospace simulation facilities at Ames Research Center and supports research simulations by NASA, other government organizations,
and industry. It provides software development services that support the agency's air
traffic management research goals. The Branch also conducts research on handling qualities,
human cueing, and training and simulation technologies.
I worked on Professor Tao Yang's Deduplication and Search for Versioned Datasets research project over the spring of 2017 and optimized performance time and reduced data
size by 20% using variable byte and delta compression methodologies.
During the summer of 2017, I worked as a full-stack software engineering intern for AppFolio Inc., over the course of which I made four different accomplishments to contribute to the company’s financial and scaleable growth: First, I learned and used Ruby on Rails to create a web application that allows for image sharing. Next, I developed features for a software integration, enabling the sales organization to beat prior revenue by 20%, achieving a record sales month. As a step in establishing a service-based architecture, I then upgraded the company’s “EmailTracker” application to an API based cloud solution. Finally, using Docker Containers, TeamCity, and Amazon’s EC2 Container Service, I built a Continuous Integration and Deployment pipeline for the EmailTracker application, implemented along with auto-load balancing and blue-green deployment in order to minimize downtime.
For my senior year capstone project, my team and I were paired with Aerospace Corporation and tasked with building a solution for users to easily track desired objects in a video. To get the tracking functionality we modified YOLO Convolutional Neural Network object tracker to filter and track only the desired object in the video, instead of all classifed object as it was before. Next we developed a Flask web application for user interface to our object tracker, including user creation, authentication, and management system; all in hopes to provide a smooth and desirable experience for user retention. Lastly, we implemented Celery as an asynchronous job processor to allow scalability and concurrent use of a web server application instance, enabling user growth without hindering the experience.
My contributions at Microsoft, under the Rewards Team in Bing, have a wide range from infrastructure and architecture improvements enabling unrestricted growth, to new partner integrations growing our customer base and increasing enagement. They include:
Leading team’s new “Engineering Excellence” vertical, jointly with manager, as the team’s Kubernetes and Azure infrastructure SME (subject matter expert) to improve overall system performance and availability.
Rearchitected backend kubernetes schema and reoptimized services’ resource utilization resulting in a capacity increase of 100% while simultaneously reducing cost by over 60%
Incorporated non-sampled time-based metrics collection using Prometheus and Grafana services in our clusters with auto-provisioning, configuration generation, and optimal run- time structure; enabling product wide performance improvements and cost savings
Redesigned and implemented the Docker build process to reduce disk usage by 75%
Co-developing an Android application to centralize various university resources in a conveninent
solution. Have currently implemented the activity handler pages for "Gauchospace" and "Gold"
using JAVA.

Smart Mirror
Used JavaScript, JQuery, HTML, and CSS to develop a webpage that displays various metrics, such
as time, date, calendar, schedule, and weather. Finished up the project by mounting a screen
behind a two-way mirror to create a digital mirror.

Designed and built a laser trip wire using a microcontroller and basic circuit elements that
sends a text message upon being triggered. Used Twilio and Temboo public APIs for messaging
functionality.
